Jane has just arrived from the UK with all her scrapping stash and tools which took 90% of her 20ft container. She left her beds behind but is clearly a girl who has her priorities right.

Jane has been card making for longer than she can remember and scrapbooking since she first discovered it on holiday in America in 2005. That holiday quickly turned into a stash shopping expedition and she returned to the UK with no new winter boots and coat, but a whole lot of strokable paper instead.

Jane’s passion for scrapbooking comes from being a professional photographer and a love of paper and stationary that formed in her childhood. There is nothing Jane likes to do more; than get messy with scissors, paper and glue except to get messy with scissors, paper, glue and paint.

Being challenged by Scrapbook Inspirations magazine to take part in their £5 challenge led to Jane becoming a regular contributor to the magazine of photography articles and layouts. She also enjoys teaching classes, that whilst producing a stunning layout encourage the participant to get creative, and learn new techniques they can then use again at home.

As well as running a photography business and teaching scrapbooking Jane is a mother to two lively children and wife to a long suffering (scrapbooking widower) husband.

Jane will be teaching out Absolute Beginners class & Technique Trends  - beginning February 2010.

The Pictures of Christmas Past - Graphic 45

Hi everyone....

Having found a new love for both Graphic 45 and Webster’s pages, the lovely Simone has spoilt me with a new collection of goodies featuring the Christmas Past papers from Graphic 45.  I just love looking into these papers and trying to decide what to crop and use as embellishments, photo corners or background mounts.  They just offer so much scope to really use your own creativity!  It just so happened that I had the perfect Christmas photo from last year waiting for the right papers to be scrapped.  My eldest daughter Saige was wearing an apricot-orange colour shirt with a bright red Santa hat, and Sienna was wearing a baby pink singlet.  Sure... I could have converted the photo to black and white to eliminate the problem but there was just something about the Santa hat that persuaded me to keep the colour!  Consequently I just had not found the right papers to use with the photo....until now that is.

The bazzill Simone matched with the Christmas Past papers could not have been more perfect and allowed me to really maximise the gorgeous patterns and shapes in the PP.  Speaking of shapes, I played with a variety of shapes in this LO.  Obviously the photo is rectangle, but I then chose to cluster various size circles (cut from the glitter paper), and layer a couple of Heidi Swap ghost stars.  The largest one of which was over the smaller photo in the top right corner of the LO.  Now this was not such a great photo, but one of those ones which you still want to include because it tells part of the story, or, is inherently linked to the main photo.  I therefore chose to fashionably conceal the photo under the ghost star with the centre of the star being over the portion of the photo that I wanted to emphasise.  To bring the star out a little I also inked around the edges in black Stazon.  The best way to adhere these onto your photos is with dimensional magic or glossy accents.  I usually chose a spot on the photo which has white or light colours and just put a dab of  there.  Be careful when placing the clear shape over the top so as not to ‘squish’ the liquid out.

Circles immediately grab the eye’s attention and therefore can have a significant effect on your LO.  Teaching I have found that many people do not work with circles as they can be hard to get right and consequently to scary to try!!  But there are a few easy to use tools in the scrapbooking world and even in your own home that can help you trace and/or cut a variety of circles.  I have used a circle cutter here from EK Success and I find it truly excellent.   The largest circle it cuts however it approx 6 inches.  So if you do want a larger circle, like one to fit onto your entire 12 x 12 paper, try using a dinner plate or upside down salad bowl as a template.  Simply trace around with a pencil and then cut...easy!  For smaller circles, do the same but instead using cotton reels, caps of bottles, and even the inner rim of your DS tape.

I mounted the photo on the flourish side of Deck the Halls paper leaving approximately a 1 cm border.  You will see a photo corner in the bottom right hand corner of the LO and this was simply made from cutting a triangle from the plaid side of the Carol of the Bells paper.  To help this paper blend with both the photo and the Bazzill, I sanded all edges.  The diamond shape ‘flowers’ were cropped from the reverse side of the Deck the Halls paper.  This pattern is actually quite busy when you first look at it, but if you break it down into smaller bits you can see a few patterns and shapes in which to make your own coordinating embellishments.  I simply cut out one square following the cream lines.  Within each square you will see four smaller red squares full of flourishes etc.  Separating these smaller squares are again some cream lines.  To make a dimensional element for this LO, I simply cut each of these inner cream lines to the centre (see photo).  Using your fingers then you can fold these up slightly so that they look like stamen or inner parts of a flower with the four red squares now resembling petals.  I then inked around all petals in black staz on and secured these flowers onto my page with green brads.  I have used three of these elements and placed them on points of an imaginary triangle.  This technique helps to balance your elements and essentially the whole LO.  The top two flowers also layer over the glitter circles which blends those clusters together.

Despite leaving the PP border around my photo I felt that it needed a little more ‘lift’.  I played around with some colours but found that the red bazzil worked the best.  In order to frame the photo and elements together I simply cut four 0.5cm strips of red Bazzill and inked the edges in black Stazon.  Place a bit of adhesive on the back of each strip and lay them around the photo leaving a small gap between your strips and the photo.  The photo mat also has a little black Staz on applied just to distress it a little.  I actually used a small stencil brush to do this.  Dab the stencil brush directly onto the ink pad and kinda swirl it around so the brush picks up a good amount of the ink.  Repeat the swirling motion then on the PP and the stencil brush delivers a small amount of the ink onto your PP.  If you want more intense colour then just keep adding layers of colour until you have the depth you want.  Using a stencil brush with ink is also a really good way to get ink into tight little spots that you cannot get into with using the inkpad directly onto your paper or LO.

Finally to complete the embellishing and bring everything together, I added some black circular rubons to both clusters, and added some green and red Kaiser mini flowers to the top embellishment cluster.  Something that I do quite a lot too is to apply a rub on in the centre of a flower when a brad, button, rhinestone, pearl etc doesn’t quite cut it!!  Use your rubons, and it doesn’t necessarily have to be circular in shape, to add a really effective look to your paper flowers.  I finished off with a bow in coordinating Christmas ribbon, a rub on title (both were from Making Memories), white gel pen doodles, and some Ranger stickles in the centres of circle rubons.

Happy scrapping....

More Websters Pages! taking us by storm...

Hi everyone....

If you have visited my recent blog you would know that I received a gorgeous pack from Simone that was filled with some Wester’s Pages, matching Bazzill (cream puff), Core’dinations paper (Tidal wave), chipboard flourishes, prima flowers and some paper doilies.  Simone supplied me with some stunning flowers in hues of turquoise and aqua which proved as the guiding light in which colours to team with the theme of the Webster’s pages paper.  These papers were from the ‘Your Life’ range and were filled with inspirational words, titles, floral patterns, butterflies all embedded in lovely chocolate and cream backgrounds.  As per my other LO I combined this colour theme with turquoise and some droplets of pink.

I just want to say here that these papers, like those from Graphic 45, are designed in a fashion to basically give you everything you need to complete a LO without having to purchase or use too many ‘extra’ bits!  When I say this I mean that within the theme of each paper, you find shapes to cut out and either mount directly or layer onto your LO, words that can be cropped and mounted onto 3D foam or chipboard to be used as titles and/or quotes, patterns and flourishes that with a little creative cutting can be separated and used individually or kept together as a patterned block.  The best part about these papers is that they are all colour coordinated and have a common theme.  Don’t be afraid then to really chop into these papers and recreate a unique look onto a blank piece of cardstock or OTP project.  I know the old saying that the WHOLE is greater than the sum of its parts but in relation to these stunning papers....I think that the parts are the best bit!!!!  With this in mind, crop crop crop away and showcase not only the papers but also your creative talents.

For this LO I tried to think outside the square a little created a ‘shaped’ LO.  It still measures 12 x 12 however the right side features large scallops and the left corners have been rounded.  On one of the Webster’s pages was a large scallop shape that literally stretched the full length of the page.  I cropped this, separated the blue from the lined section and mounted it onto the right side of the cardstock so that the widest edge of the blue scallop sat flush with right edge of CS.  There is a small gap between the blue scallop piece and the lined scallop section that measures maybe 1.5cms.  I then cropped around the scallop shape of the PP which gave the right side of the LO a shape whilst maintaining the 12 x 12 size to fit in your album.

As with the paper doilies in my previous blog, I spritzed one doily with Old Lace Glimmer mist and then inked around the edges in distress ink.  This was then sliced in half and nestled in the 1.5cm gap between the two PP sections.  Whoa...hope that made sense!  OK, check out the photos and once again I have layered elements that were cropped from the PP.  The title “Beautiful” was closely cropped then mounted over the photo.  Using the small end of my stylus, I then glazed over each letter to give it a shiny 3D look.  I find that when you wish to glaze tricky shapes or letters like this, squeeze a little dimensional magic /3D glaze onto your craft mat or some scrap paper, and use your styles (or even head of a pin) to pick up some fluid and lay it onto your letter that way.  This eliminates the risk of the dimensional magic forming a bubble where you don’t want it or squeezing too much out at once.

See the photo of the brown flower at the top of the LO..... I cropped this flower from the PP and applied a bit of double-sided tape to the middle.  To make it pop up like this, simply grab a pencil, or the opposite end of a paint brush run it along each petal of the flower as you do the curling ribbon that goes on pressies.  This curls the edges up just slightly and makes them jump out at you. You can then mount it onto your LO.

Because I wanted to focus on the papers and the photo in this LO, I chose to hide my journaling behind the little wallet size photo that peeks out from the right edge of the main photo.  I did this by leaving a gap under the main photo free from adhesive so that when it was mounted onto the CS, there was a space to slide my mini photo in behind.  I mounted the wallet size photo onto the Core’dinations paper and simply journalled on the back.  You can see here also I used the word “You” which I had cropped from the PP.  I then turned this into a little tag by punching a small hole and threading scrappers floss through the hole.

To bring the colour pink into the mix I lightly ran my Staz on pad (in Cherry Pink) over the top of the chipboard flourish.  Bit of pritt gel on the back and layered over the bottom corner of the flower.  To give it a shiny finish, apply some dimensional magic /glossy accents  over the top.  Remember too that whilst dimensional magic is wet, you can place a little pearl, rhinestone or even glitter on the chipboard shape and it will set there as the glaze dries.  Glimmers of pink were also added by some hand stitching in pink embroidery thread, and fuchsia bling on the “B” in the word Beautiful.

The chocolate ribbon that you see around the bottom of the photo was done by firstly tying a small bow at one end, then applying DS tape to the underside of the desired length of ribbon to run down the left edge of the photo.  To ‘turn’ the corner place your finger on the ribbon and then fold it over to run along the bottom edge of the photo.  Place a strip of DS tape directly onto the LO where the ribbon will go and place the ribbon over the top. As I had a few scraps of paper left, I then cropped some leaves and vines from the PP, and punched some small butterflies and mounted them at the junction of the PP and the cream CS.   I felt this spot just needed something to help it blend and this worked perfectly.

And......I think that that was about it!!  Oh hang on, no... the final embellishment was some “Chino”  Kaisercraft pearls in the centre of the blue flower.  Instead of just using one pearl here I created a little pearl centre by surrounding the largest pearl with a ring of the smallest size pearls.  Really happy with the result.....’just like a bought one’ as my late Grandad used to say!! I also placed a few other pearls around in some highly ‘strategic’ spots!!    P.S. the chocolate and dark pink pearls also looked really nice if Chino isn’t your taste.

A final thought, after completing both of these Los using the Webster’s Pages, I literally have nothing left bar a few strips of plain brown paper.  By using all the gorgeous pictures, words and backgrounds in the PP two whole projects were completed!  Great value for money and a fantastic creative challenge.

Happy scrapping....

xx Keonie

Happy Scrappin!    Simone X

Websters Pages 'Your Life' - by Keonie

Hello Again,

Thanks to the lovely Simone I got an awesome opportunity to scrap with the gorgeous Websters pages in particular the “Your Life” range.  Haven’t actually used these papers before so it was an exciting challenge.  This range boasts lovely colours of brown, cream, blue and even a hint of hot pink!  It just so happens that I love working with Sepia photos and had a ‘fave’  photo of two of my children in Sepia tint just begging to be scrapped.  Here is the finished product

Keonies Websters Pages Blog Entries

Having a neutral background of cream Bazzill allowed me to really focus on bringing out the colours I chose from the paper.  Chocolate is a prominent feature anyway so I chose to highlight the blue and hot pink hues that always compliment chocolate.  After lightly sanding the edges of my 6” x 8” photo, I mounted it onto baby blue Bazzill CS.  I only wanted a hint of the blue Bazzill so left approx a 0.5cm mat around the photo.  I then spritzed Glimmer mist onto the top left corner of the cream Bazzill and as I wanted a blotchy arty type feel I held the glimmer mist bottle relatively close to the Cardstock.  As Glimmer mist is a water based product it does have a funky warping effect on your Cardstock but if you place it under something heavy to dry this warping or bending of the CS is minimised.

Simone also gave me some paper doilies to work with.  YES....doilies.  I had some serious fun with these and completely changed their original appearance from stark white to a distressed blue that perfectly matched the theme of the LO.  Firstly I Glimmer misted the doily with Denim Blue.

 Keonies Websters Pages Blog Entries

To maximise the use of my Glimmer mist I did this over a separate piece of CS and once you remove the doily you will find that it has acted like a mask and you now also have a gorgeous background effect that you can use on another project.  Once the doily was dry, I then inked around the edges in Distress ink – vintage photo.  Now you have a perfectly coordinated element to add to your page.

The remainder of the LO came together by layering elements and cut outs from the “Beautiful” paper of the Websters pages range.  Firstly I mounted the altered doily towards the bottom right of the page and then layered my photo on top.  The title ‘Divine inspirations’ was cropped from the patterned paper and mounted onto chipboard to give it a 3D effect.  Prior to mounting this, I layered two prima flowers towards the bottom left hand corner of the photo and then mounted the title over those so that they sit just underneath.  Use a paper piercer to make holes in the two top corners and bottom right-hand corner of the title and place pink brads through.   Oh...I also placed another Prima flower over the top right hand corner of the title.

Keonies Websters Pages Blog Entries

 Keonies Websters Pages Blog Entries

Next layer was some vine leaves which I cropped from the PP and mounted approx 3 cms above the title, flush with the right edge of the photo.  I also cropped another single leaf and mounted that over on the left edge of the title to sort of give the whole thing a wrap effect!

Keonies Websters Pages Blog Entries

On the reverse side of the Websters page is a pink pattern which is done in kind of squares.  I cropped one of these, rounded its corners, inked around edges with distress ink and turned it on its side to resemble a diamond.  This was then mounted on right edge of photo just above the title and slightly overlapping the big leaf.  Using this element was enough to allow the inclusion of pink as a colour in the LO!!  (he he gotta love pink....)

Keonies Websters Pages Blog Entries

As you can see in the photo, there is also a chipboard flourish.  More and more lately I have been leaving chipboard raw and either glazing it with Dimensional Magic or simply spraying it with Glimmer.  It looks really great and blends super well with just about anything.  Around this flourish I tied a pretty pink bow with thin satin ribbon and then using dabs of pritt gel, mounted the flourish onto the LO just above the title.  I deliberately left long tails of ribbon to wrap around and under other elements like the blue butterfly.  These were cropped from the PP and simply mounted onto the LO with 3D foam.  For a little extra fun I also glazed the bodies of the butterflies and moth with dimensional magic.

Finally, to balance out the cluster I had goin’ on in the bottom right hand corner, I ruled a small photo corner around top left hand corner of the photo in brown zig pen, and embellished with two pink rhinestones – one slightly larger than the other.

Overall I really loved the result and the best part is, you are left with some really lovely scraps of paper from the Websters pages paper that you can use for another LO!!

See ya

Keonie

Once Upon a Time - By Belinda Spencer

Simone asked me to pick out some item's, and create a page for the blog... Using anything I wanted to.....
What a challenge I set for myself with the things I chose but boy do I love the way it turned out. Never thought I would ever do heritage pages. The journalling is a bit "soppy" for me too. Sorry if you need a bucket. I have a slightly used spew bowl if you need it!!

Went a bit mad with  Crackle Accents on the clocks but they were screaming out for it. I chopped up the lace paper but the black turned out to be too dark so I used the pieces as a template to cut the shapes from Cream of Wheat Core'dinations then layered pieces of the pp over the top.
Had a bit of a circle theme going with the clocks so I cut the Spinner into a circle and used two of the corners in the top left and bottom left corners of the layout. Had to use Vintage Photo ink on just about everything too.
Hope you like it!
